The Beach Boys Endless Summer

So it's been a long day but good and I was sleepy and then I put on this record. I didn't start with side one apparently so the first song I heard was " Be True to Your School" i was instantly awake and chair dancing yellin push em back push em back wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy back. To which I got odd looks from Boyd and Steve since I am listening via headphones so they can watch some criminal show.  I grinned and replied " Well im not bragin babe so dont put me down but i got the fastest set of wheels in town!"

There is not one song on this record that I do not like. When "In my Room" came on I smiled and drifted back over a decade ago to a woman named Susie. Susie was a woman who lived with autism in a group home I worked at. When she was stemming she would want to listen two one of two songs, John Denver's  Sunshine on my shoulders or In my room. She did not talk much but she would come tug on my arm and say "snunshin ne ne" and off I would go to put in the John Denver tape. When that one was over it was always the Beach Boys greatest hits and you could hear from the back of the house in a very high pitched voice
"innnnnnnnnnnnnn my woommmmm" and that was about the extent of what Susie could say. I remember many hours spent curled up with her head on my shoulder as she serenaded me and i petted her hair cause that was what made her most calm and safe. I have spent a great many years working with people who have developmental disabilities and some of my best life lessons have been taught by those society thinks contributes very little. From the men and women I have served I learned to control my temper and change my lifelong philosophy of hit now ask later. You always had to take that five seconds and realize who was hitting you and remember your at work and not hit back. I was taught to love unconditionally and it's the most pure love I have ever felt.  From them I learned just how special the simple things like a song could be.  How it can so totally change one's life.

Ok so I love the song "California Girls" both versions since David Lee Roth's and the Beach Boys. It's a catchy tune with a good beat. However I have to totally disagree I would not want all my girls to be Californian. Northern Cali girls might be ok but anything south of the Napa Valley no thanks.....Well ok a lil south is fine but nothing between the Napa Valley and San Diego. San Diego girls are all good. I personally think girls from the Pacific Northwest are the best but then I might be mildly biased.

Help me Rhondaaaaaaa help me get her outta my heart....What a load of malarkey. You cannot forget one person by being with another. Temporarily perhaps but only you can get someone outta your heart and mind. Good tune though. Very upbeat and one can't help but dance in her antique rocking chair.

Overall you can't go wrong with some good old fashioned surfer music. The very first concert I went to was a Beach Boys concert. I took one of the girls from the group home who LOVED vinyl even more then I do. She was pretty darn blind and the seats were second row from the stage. Her very favorite band was the Mama's and the Papa's Beach Boys comin in a close second. Well at that concert Andrea was on her feet most of the time but when the Beach Boys covered "California Dreamin" she went NUTS. She started tugging on my shirt yellin "Mama's Papa's nana Mama's Papa's." I said no Andrea its not the Beach Boys and she looked up at me, put her hands on her hips as if to say yea ok looked at me sternly and said " NOoooooooooooooooo Nana Mama's and Papa's " she then turned to face the stage once more and sang every damn word of the song and I had never seen a smile on her face like that before or after.

Overall the Beach Boys can pick up your mood no matter who you are. Get this double record set close your eyes and be transported in a Woody to a sandy beach with a long board under your arm as you race to catch the granddaddy wave.
